Suv Crashes With Pole And Catches Fire, Driver Escapes At Wise Rd And Irving Park Rd, Schauamburg
Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:40 AM Sunday SUV vs. light pole crash with injuries and fire at Wise Road and Irving Park Road. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a red Jeep was on fire after crashing into a light pole. Police were first on the scene and reported the Jeep was on fire and that a pole was about to fall. Firefighter/paramedics on the scene reported the driver was ambulatory and that the Jeep was on fire. At least one pole was damaged and on an angle, and power lines were down or hanging. Wise Road was immediately closed in both directions. A near by shopping strip mall parking lot was also evacuated of the parked cars at the strip mall.
Irving Park Road was closed later. ComEd was called to the scene and gave a 30-minute ETA.
