Fatal Apartment Fire At Colony Apartments On South Cannon Drive, Mount Prospect

Mount Prospect police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:41 41 Saturday to report of smoke in an apartment building at The Colony Apartments, 2365 South Cannon Drive. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of smoke in the apartment and hallway. Elk Grove Township firefighters arrived first on the scene and reported no smoke showing from three sides of the Colony Apartments building, but people were waving at them from the second floor. Inside firefighters discovered dense smoke in the hallway and stairwell, and upgraded the fire to a working fire (Code 4) at about 5:49 a.m. Firefighters reported that the fire was out by 6:01 a.m. and that search and rescue discovered one fire victim. The fire is apparently a fatal fire, but has not been confirmed with media by fire officials.


Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Township, and Rolling Meadows immediately responded to The Colony Apartments fire as Mount Prospect firefighter/paramedics were already committed to a fire on North School Street in Mount Prospect. Several Mount Prospect firefighters and chiefs were able to respond immediately to The Colony Apartments fire, as they completed duties at North School Street.

Oakton was shut down in both directions between Elmhurst Road and just west of Lexington. Eastbound lanes were opened at  about 7:00 a.m. Westbound lanes were opened a little later.
