Car Fire On Lift In A Repair Shop On Wise Rd Near Wright Blvd, Schaumburg

Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:35 PM Wednesday to a report of a car fire in a car repair shop  First fire crews reported smoke showing out the overhead door from a car fire in a repair shop. Firefighters fought a car fire that ignited ceiling material and other contents in a car repair stall. Firefighters had some difficulty making progress with the fire, apparently because the car was up on a lift close to the ceiling. The heat and fire -- generated so close to the roof -- apparently put the steel truss roof at risk of collapse. No firefighters were allowed on the roof. The risk of collapse of the car off of the lift or the lift collapsing was also a factor in fighting the fire.

Firefighters put two lines on the fire, and then a third line with firefighting foam was deployed because burning gasoline was still coming out of the vehicle about 20 minutes after the fire was reported.

A box alarm for for change of company mutual aid was requested at about 12:52 p.m. At 12:55 p.m. the firefighting operation went defensive after bent steel beams at the roof were discovered. All firefighters were ordered out of the repair stall and firefighters were ordered to terminate an operation assigned to ventilate the roof at a skylight. Fire command also checked that all firefighters were accounted for.

the fire was extinguished at about 1:53 p.m. No injuries were reported.
