Arlington Heights Designated "Green Power Community" By Epa

The USEPA has designated Arlington Heights as a Green Power Community for its use of solar power at the Downtown bike shelter along with using 100% green power, which is produced by wind generation, to furnish electrical needs to some of the Village's sanitary sewer lift stations and smaller facilities. All residents and small businesses that participate in the electrical aggregation program receive their energy supply from 100% wind generation.

Green power is electricity produced from "environmentally preferable renewable resources" such as wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro. The Village joined the Green Power Partnership as a way to show its commitment to green power and to demonstrate environmental leadership. The use of green power reduces the environmental impacts associated with conventional electricity use.

Signs recognizing Arlington Heights as a Green Power Community will soon be displayed in a few locations in the Village. To learn more about Green Power initiatives, click here (http://www.epa.gov/greenpower/communities/index.htm).
