Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:30 PM Thursday to a report of crash with injuries at Kennicott Avenue and Maude Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a car was driven into a house, and that the driver was fleeing on foot away from the crash scene.

A neighbor or guest spending time with family for Thanksgiving across the street followed the driver on foot and encouraged him to return to the scene. The house that was hit is located on the northeast corner of Kennicott Avenue and Maude Avenue. The driver was walked back to the scene -- accompanied by police -- from the west side of Kennicott Avenue.

The driver was apparently not seriously injured, but neighbors believed he was highly intoxicated. He was transported to Northwest Community Hospital. A neighbor said the car was skidding almost 100 yards before hitting the house -- crossing diagonally across Kennicott Avenue while southbound toward Maude Avenue.

When the car hit the house, a gas line to a gas furnace was severed. A heavy odor of gas filled the house and filled the outside area of the house. Firefighters shut of the gas at the meter, and quickly ventilated the house.

Several families were at the scene, after interrupting their gatherings to see what the louds noises and commotion were all about.

A Village of Arlington Heights Building Inspector arrived on the scene to inspect for structural damage.
