Bracing for Possible Severe Weather at the Chicago Blackhawk Parade Route by 8:30 a.m.

A "Full force thunderstorm" headed for Chicago Blackhawks parade route by 8:30 a.m. A small but severe thunderstorm with heavy rain and cloud-to-ground lightning is heading toward the Chicago downtown area, including Soldier Field Thursday morning.

At 8:07 a.m. lightning strikes were crossing I-294 at the latitude of Soldier Field ant the parade. Further north in Highland Park the storm had already reached the shore of Lake Michigan.

Chicago Police observing at O'Hare reported heavy rain but no lightning.

The severe weather appears to be splitting near the Uptown neighborhood to the north, and heading to neighborhoods south of Soldier Field to the south. The northern edge of severe weather could just clip the Soldier Field area.

The Blackhawks parade is scheduled to step off at 10:00 CDT at West Washington Boulevard and North Racine Avenue and travel east to North DesPlaines Street before turning south to West Monroe Street. From Monroe, the parade will travel east to South Michigan Avenue.

As of 8:20 a.m. no Severe Thunrderstorm Warnings or Watches were posted by the National Weather Service office.
