Car Fire Destroys Toyota Corolla on East Northwest Highway Near Chicago Swim School, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:24 PM Monday to a car fire at 2012 East Northwest Highway Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a car was burning in the parking lot of the Chicago Swim School.

The driver heard a loud pop and then saw smoke coming out of her 2015 Toyota Corolla. Next flames were showing from under the hood and high winds fanned the fire. A witness reported the flames were about 20 feet or more in the air before the car fire was extinguished. The owner said there was no other warning that something was wrong except the loud pop immediately before the fire started.

Arlington Heights firefighters on Engine 2 extinguished the fire and used a good amount of water to cool off the car after the fire was extinguished to prevent a rekindle. Operations required a connection to a hydrant.

Heavy black smoke came out of the car when the interior started burning.

Arlington Heights Fire Deparment sent an investigator to the scene of the fire near the border between Arlington Heights and Mount Prospect.
