Head-on Crash with Car Fire on Ashe Rd North of Baseline Rd, Sugar Grove

Kane County Sheriff's deputies and Sugar Grove firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:04 AM Monday to a report of crash with injuries at Ashe Road and Baseline Road Sugar Grove Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that the crash was on Ashe Road north of Baselne Road.

An updated report notified first responders of a head-on crash with a car fire.

Police on scene reported by 6:12 a.m. that a fully-involved vehicle fire was discovered on the scene with everyone out of the burning vehicle. The fire involved the engine compartment and the passenger compartment of a silver Pontiac Grand Prix.

Sugar Grove FPD's Battalion Chief 9 on arrival reported two vehicles with heavy damage and one vehicle on fire by 6:13 a.m. Firefighters immediately went to work to extinguish the fire.

A second ambulance and another engine were requested to the scene by 6:14 a.m. A Bristol-Kendall ambulance and fire engine were assigned.

Fire scene command reported crews were working on extrication by 6:15 a.m. -- apparently on a black or dark-colored Chevy Cruze that was not involved with fire.

A ComEd utility pole was also hit, and ComEd was requested to respond to the scene. The Chevy Cruze apparently grazed the utility pole after the head-on crash with resulting damage on the front-end, driver's side and passenger's side.

Bristol-Kendall Medic 143 transported one patient to Rush Copley Medical Center, and Sugar Grove Medic 951 transported one patient to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. Both ambulances left the scene by about 6:39 a.m.

Daniel Scott, 22, of the 3200 block of Tamaira Street in Plano, was charged with violating a no-passing zone. His silver Pontiac Grand Prix entered the no-passing zone northbound, and hit a Chevy Cruze that was heading southbound on Ashe Road. The driver of the Chevy Cruze was a 54-year-old Hinckley man. Both men are initially believed to have injuries that are not life-threatening.

Southbound lanes of Ashe Rd were still closed at 8:50 a.m. just north of Baseline Rd.

All lanes were open by 9:10 a.m.
