Fire Destroys Car-X on Oakton St Near Mannheim Rd, Des Plaines

Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:26 PM Friday to a report of a fire at Car-X, 1108 East Oakton Street Des Plaines, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a fire at Car-X.

Engine 62's crew on arrival reported a working fire at Car-X by 1:27 p.m.

Battalion Chief 61 requested a Working Fire response by 1:28 p.m.

The wall on the west side was at risk of collapse by 1:38 p.m. with welding tanks near the interior side of the wall.

An aerial tower raised by about 1:30 p.m.

Engine 61's crew led out with a second 2 1/2-inch line at about 1:31 p.m.

Crews were going defensive by about 1:36 p.m. as the fire went through the roof.

The fire response was elevated to a Box Alarm by 2:02 p.m. for engine, trucks and ambulances only.
