Pickpocket Theft at Lowe's on Algonquin Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 3:51 PM Thursday of a pickpocket theft at Lowes's 990 West Algonquin Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender unlawfully took the victim's wallet from the pocket of the victim's jeans after physically running into the victim. The victim was unaware the wallet was removed from his jeans at the time of theft in an apparent pick pocketing.

Contained in the wallet were various credit and identification cards and approximately $50.

The offender is described only as a tall male, black.

Two Offenders Hit Victim Over Head with Gun at 7-Eleven on East Algonquin Rd, Unincorporated Schaumburg

Cook County Sheriff's police and Palatine and Rolling Meadows firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:14 AM Tuesday to a report of a person injured by two male offenders at the 7-Eleven, 1644 East Algonquin Road Schaumburg, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a victim was hit over the head with a gun at or near the 7-Eleven near Algonquin Road and Thorntree Lane in unincorporated Schaumburg in Palatine Township.

Police received a report that two male offenders dressed in black at the 7-Eleven injured the victim. The offenders were last seen heading eastbound on Algonquin Road.

Pickup Truck Crashes Into Garage Wall at Kirchhoff Rd and Reuter Drive, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:21 AM Saturday to a report of crash with injuries at Kirchhoff Road and Reuter Drive Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a vehicle crash into a house at the northeast corner of Kirchhoff Road and Reuter Drive.

The injured driver of a pickup truck was transported to Northwest Community Hospital.

The driver was apparently northbound on Wilke Road and left the road, crossed Kirchhoff Road, went through a yard fence, grazed a tree, and crashed into the brick wall of an attached garage.

Much of the brick was smashed to the ground, and at least two cracks were visible in the brick above the location where the vehicle hit the wall.

Police are investigating what caused the driver to leave the roadway.

Trapped Driver Extricated, Says Initially He Was "Not Hurt" in Crash at a Arlington Heights Rd and Rand Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:08 PM Saturday to a report of a crash with entrapment at Arlington Heights Road and Rand Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that at least one person was trapped in a vehicle involved in a crash.

The driver of a minivan was trapped in his vehicle, and firefighter/paramedics used cutter and spreader extrication tools "Jaws of Life" to free the man from his vehicle.

The man did not initially report any injuries, and was immediately able to work away from his vehicle after he was extricated. A female driver in a sedan involved in the crash also did not initially report any injuries. A third smaller sedan was also hit, and received very minor damage. Both of the other vehicles received received serious damage.

The third driver was waiting at a red light when the other two vehicles collided. The female driver of the third vehicle said the crash occurred so fast she didn't know which driver might have been at fault.

Arlington Heights Fire Department recently activated one of two customized rescue squads on Wednesday October 30, 2019. Today's crash involving entrapment of a driver was the first time this particular vehicle was used for an extrication rescue.

Wallet Theft from Shopping Cart at Trader Joe's on Rand Rd, Arlington Heights

The total retail value of the merchandise is pending store inventory, but a preliminary investigation indicates a loss in excess of approximately $4,000.

The offenders were seen parked in a handicapped parking stall on the property in a gray Chevrolet Impala with an Illinois license plate.

Driver Flees Hit-and-Run Injury Crash at Route 59 and Route 72, South Barrington

South Barrington police and area firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:04 PM Friday to a hit-and-run crash with personal injury at Route 59 and Route 72 South Barrington, IL. Police received a report that an offending driver left the scene of a personal injury crash.

The offending driver is described as a male/black driver.

Police, Paramedics Respond to Scene of Alleged Domestic Battery, Arrest Suspect on Fernandez Ave North of White Oak St, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:25 AM Tuesday to a report of a domestic battery at a home on South Fernandez Avenue near the intersection of Fernandez Avenue and Magnolia Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a domestic battery victim at a home on Fernandez Avenue, and that the victim of the domestic escaped in a vehicle down the street, closer to White Oak Street.

Police and firefighter/paramedics were told that the offender was still on scene, and multiple police units responded to the scene.

Firefighter/paramedics staged nearby until police secured the scene by about 7:30 a.m.

Police arrested John A. Matassa of the block of 1100 South Fernandez Avenue at 8:45 a.m. Matassa was charged with domestic battery after he was accused of committing a domestic battery at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Vehicle Burglary at LA Fitness Lot on Palatine Rd, Arlington Heights

A MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm on Box #26-9 for an evidence recovery at Round Lake Park lakefront was activated at 10:24 a.m.

A fatal shooting occurred at a party about two blocks south of the Round Lake lakefront about 1:15 a.m. Sunday September 29, 2019. Initially there is no official confirmation that today's police and fire activity is connected to the investigation of the fatal shooting case.

Burglary to 3 Commercial Vans at Business on North Hickory Ave Near Wing St, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 7:31 AM Sunday of a vehicle burglary at Central Plumbing, 29 North Hickory Lane Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders unlawfully entered three locked work vans by shattering the front passenger side windows. The vans were parked overnight in the business parking lot.

The vans were filled with plumbing equipment and power tools. An inventory of the missing property was being conducted by the Plumbing Company at the time of the police report.

Person In The Water at Central Ave and North Branch Chicago River, Chicago

Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:30 AM Sunday to a report of a person in the water after jumping from a bridge near 5952 North Central Ave Chicago, Il. Squad 2 divers were going in the water about 11:45 a.m. with SCUBA Dive Team Unit 6-8-7 about 7 minutes away. The Chicago Fire Department rescue helicopters were grounded due to weather.

The diving rescue scene is located at the North Branch of the Chicago River near Central Avenue, which is located near the Edgebrook Golf Course, Edgebrook Woods, and Thaddeus S. "Ted" Lechowicz Woods.

Central Avenue is blocked between Elston Avenue and Caldwell Avenue, just south of Devon Avenue.

Small Kitchen Fire, 1 Injured at Dryden Place Apartments, Dryden Ave Near Kensington Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:38 PM Tuesday to a report of smoke and an activated fire alarm at Dryden Place Apartment 3 North Dryden Avenue Arlington Heights, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that smoke was coming from an apartment unit, an activated fire alarm was heard, and people were screaming in the apartment.

Firefighters on arrival reported the smell of burning food, and requested a paramedic crew to move up to enter the apartment.

Engine 2's crew reported they can handle, and all other fire crews were returned. Engine 2's crew checked for extension of fire, and confirmed there was no extension.

SUV Driver Accidentally Crashes into Jeweler's Business on South Dunton Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police responded about 10:57 AM Sunday to an activated burglary alarm at Persin and Robbin, 24 South Dunton Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Upon arrival police discovered that the female driver of a Subaru SUV had crashed through the front store window of the jeweler's business.

Firefighter/paramedics were also dispatched in case of any injuries, but police reported there were no injuries after assessing the scene. Persin and Robbin is closed on Sundays and nobody was in the store at the time of the crash.

Apparently the adult female driver accidentally had the transmission in Drive instead of Reverse, and hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal while attempting to back away from a parking space in front of the store. There was an adult male and teen female also in the SUV -- a white Subaru, which jumped over the concrete parking block and pushed in a short distance into the store. The window frame was pushed in, and all glass was broken from the frame.

A board-up crew was working much of the day on Sunday for temporary repair.

Small Fire in a Third Floor Bedroom at Home on Bristol Ln Just North of Orchard St, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:19 PM Saturday to a report of a house fire on Bristol Lane just north of the intersection of Bristol Lane and Orchard Street Arlington Heights, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a fire in a third floor bedroom. The involved a large home, and based on information reported, the fire call upgraded to a Code 4 "Working Fire" response by 7:21 p.m.

A caller at house reported that a charger was active and may have started a pile of laundry on fire. A fire lieutentant on scene reported the fire can be extinguished with two pump cans, and the fire was extinguished with pump cans by 7:27 p.m. Firefighters immediately went to work ventilating the home and cleared interior smoke.

A fire investigator was dispatched to the scene.

Arson: Portable Toilet Set on Fire at Hasbrook Park on West Maude Ave Near Chestnut Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:23 AM Friday to a report of a fire involving a portable toilet at Hasbrook Park, 333 West Maude Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that an unknown offender or offenders committed arson by igniting a plastic porta john and caused it to become engulfed in flames. No persons were hurt as a result of the fire.

Along with the destruction of the portable toilet, a wood enclosure was destroyed, and a small tree was damaged.

The cost to repair the damage to the property was unknown at the time of the police report.

Fires involving portable toilets have been a recurring problem for about 6 months.

Suspicious Motorist Follows Woman She Left Her Workplace on Salt Creek Lane, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police responded about 4:01 PM Thursday to a report that a suspicious motorist followed a woman after she left work at 3350 Salt Creek Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown male offender, driving a silver older model pickup truck, began following a female victim after she left work in her own vehicle. The male offender drove directly behind the victim and followed her for several miles making the same lane changes and turns immediately after the victim made the lane changes and turns.

The victim made several unnecessary and off route turns onto side streets in order to test if she was being followed. The male parked behind the female in the parking lot and proceeded to sit in his vehicle until the victim exited her vehicle. The male then followed the female into the store before the female was able to get away safely from the male.

The offender is described as a male/unknown race (or race not disclosed), 50-60 years old with short, spiked gray hair, wearing Oakley sunglasses, a short sleeved shirt and blue jeans.

Police received a report that a bicyclist was hit by a car, and that the driver of the car left the scene. The bicyclist was standing with his bike after the crash.

Retail Theft Suspects Described After Crime at Kohl's on Dundee Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 8:05 PM Friday of a theft at Kohl's, 800 West Dundee Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that two unknown offenders concealed merchandise for sale on their persons before leaving the store without paying for the merchandise.

The first offender is described as a female, Hispanic, approximately 25-35 years old, heavy build with a tattoo on the back of her neck and wearing a maroon V-neck style T-shirt with dark colored pants.

The second offender is described as a male, Hispanic, approximately 20-30 years old, thin, tall build with a tattoo on the back of his neck and wearing a gray and white long sleeved shirt with dark colored pants. The offenders were last seen leaving the area in a gray 2005 Chevrolet Impala with an Illinois license plate. The total retail value of the merchandise is under investigation at this time pending a store inventory.

Arson: Two Portable Toilets Set on Fire at Greenbrier School, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:58 PM Sunday to an arson fire involving a portable toilet at Greenbrier School, 2330 North Verde Drive Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that unknown offenders committed arson by igniting a plastic porta john and causing it to become engulfed in fire. No persons were hurt as a result of the fire. The cost to repair the damage to the property is unknown at this time.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 10:57 PM.

Extrication Crash with Vehicle Fire at Milwaukee Ave and Ballard Rd Niles

Niles police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:04 PM Thursday to a report of a crash with entrapment and a vehicle fire at Milwaukee Ave and Ballard Rd Niles, Il. Firefighter/paramedics received a report that one person was removed from a vehicle before firefighter/paramedics arrived. Initially it was not confirmed whether this was a police rescue or a civilian rescue.

Nile Fire Battalion 2 on arrival reported two vehicles with heavy damage. Engine 2 pulled a hose line for the vehicle fire.

Eastbound Ballard Rd was backing up immediately. Then Milwaukee Avenue was backed up in both directions.

Niles police advised motorists to use Washington Street or Cumberland Avenue as an alternative to Milwaukee Avenue.

According to Google Maps traffic layer at 9:55 p.m. Thursday, traffic seemed to be moving with slight obstruction near the intersection.

Bicycle Theft at Downtown Metra Station on Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights

Thief Befriends Victim, Gives Him Ride to Store, Takes Groceries, Personal Belongings on Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 11:31 AM Wednesday of a theft in the block of 1300 East Northwest Highway Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender stole a victim's personal belongings and groceries.

Police received a report that a male offender offered a give the victim a ride so the victim could get groceries at the grocery store. After shopping, the male offender dropped the victim back off at his residence, but drove away before the victim could retrieve his personal belongings from the vehicle. The offender unlawfully took the victim's wallet containing various credit and debit cards and the newly purchased groceries valued at approximately $110.

The offender was described as a male/black approximately 5'8" with dreadlocks, a tattoo on his neck going down to his back, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and Timberland boots.

The Arlington Height Police Department did not specify the grocery store, but Mariano's is the nearest grocery store at 802 East Northwest Highway. Initially no vehicle description of the suspect's vehicle was provided by the Arlington Heights Police Department.

Attic Fire In House on Skyline Drive Near Hazelwood Drive Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:31 AM Tuesday to a report of a house fire on Skyline Drive just south of the intersection of Skyline Drive and Hazelwood Drive Crystal Lake, Il. Initial dispatch at 6:31 a.m. and first crew on arrival by about 6:38 a.m reported nothing showing from the exterior.

the initial status update from firefighters on scene at about 6:49 a.m. reported a fire in a second story fireplace, but that it was unknown how the fire started. Severe thunderstorm with lightning in the area was occurring at the time of the fire.

A gas line possibly supplying a second floor fireplace was possibly ignited; firefighters were working to shut down the gas supply.

A crew on scene reported fire in the attic at 6:55 a.m., and a MABAS Box Alarm was activated at about 7:01 a.m. Box Alarm. The fire was extinguished and the Box Alarm was struck out at about 7:42 a.m.

Pickpocket Theft at Restaurant on Campbell St Near Vail Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 8:01 PM Saturday of a theft at 17 West Campbell Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender unlawfully took the victim's wallet after bumping into her at the bar. It was later determined the female offender bumped into the victim on purpose as a ruse to take the wallet off of the victim's person. Criminal Damage to Vehicle at Apartment Complex on Tonne Drive, Arlington Heights

A third party witness reported that an unknown female offender was hitting a victim's vehicle with a baseball bat while it was parked legally in the apartment complex parking lot.

The offender was described as a female/black, approximately 30-35 years-old, heavyset, and wearing a patterned dress. The female was observed using the baseball bat to damage the windshield and hood of the vehicle.

The witnessed called the police but the offender fled just before police arrived on the scene. A search of the area was conducted but was unsuccessful.

The owner of the vehicle was contacted by police. The owner told police they were unsure about any suspects that would have wanted to damage their vehicle.

Vehicle Stolen While Parked in Auto Service Lot on East Northwest Highway Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 2:09 PM Thursday of a stolen auto at SMOC Enterprises, 660 East Northwest Highway Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown male offender unlawfully took the victim's vehicle from the parking lot of an automobile repair garage while it was at the garage being serviced. The vehicle had been left unattended by garage staff and unlocked with the keys inside the vehicle while in the parking lot.

The offender is described as a male/Hispanic, wearing a purple shirt, green hat, black shorts and carrying a black backpack.

The police release did not described the vehicle make and model.

Person Hit, Killed By Metra Train Near Lee Street and Miner Street Des Plaines

Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:51 AM Sunday to a report of a person hit by a Metra train near Lee Street and Miner Street Des Plaines, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics on arrival discovered that a pedestrian was hit and killed by a Metra train.

Metra police and Des Plaines police investigating.

Metra described Train #706, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 10:09 AM, was operating 134 minutes behind schedule. However Metra did not indicated was involved in the pedestrian incident.

Theft of Apple iPhone, Wallet from Balcony on Bloomington Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 12:16 AM Tuesday of a theft in the block of 4100 Bloomington Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders unlawfully took the victim's iPhone, Bluetooth speaker, cigarettes and wallet containing approximately $100.00 cash from a balcony after they were left unattended when the victim went inside.

Rollover Crash with Injuries at Central Road and Kirchoff Road Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:10 PM Wednesday to a report of a rollover crash with entrapment at Central Road and Kirchoff Road Arlington Heights, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that one vehicle was on it side with the driver still inside the vehicle. Police first on the scene reported that the driver in the rolled vehicle was alert and talking.

First fire crew on arrival reported one person in a vehicle with all others ambulatory. Firefighters removed the windshield and extricated the patient through the opening by 6:25 p.m. The female driver was transported to Northwest Community Hospital by Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics.

The crash involved the Honda SUV, a white Honda Accord, and a small blue vehicle. According to the owner, the blue vehicle was just purchased.

No other people initially reported any injuries.

A witness on the scene reported the Honda SUV driver had a green light while traveling eastbound on Kirchoff Road to eastbound Central Road. The witness said the driver of the white Honda Accord disobeyed the red light while westbound on Central Road, and hit the Honda SUV on the driver's side, which caused it to roll. From the force of the crash, the white Honda Accord then careened to the right, and head westbound in the eastbound lanes of Kirchoff Road and hit the passenger side of the blue vehicle.

Armed Bank Robbery at the Byline Bank on Skokie Boulevard, Skokie

Skokie police responded about 4:03 PM Thursday to an armed robbery at the Byline Bank, 8400 Skokie Boulevard Skokie, IL. Police received a report that a woman robbed the bank


The offender was described as a female/black 5'0" medium building, wearing a green scarf over her face, a green dress with a red and yellow design and displayed a black handgun.

The suspect was also the driver, as she got in dark gray Nissan Versa. the vehicle and offender was last westbound on Main Street from Skokie Boulevard.

Initially an unknown amount of US cash was taken.


The crime is reported to have occurred at 4:03 p.m.

Arlington Heights police received a report about 11:38 AM Thursday of a theft at Mitchell's Jewelers, 10 North Dunton Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders unlawfully removed a diamond from a shipping envelop after the diamond had been sent out for cleaning and repair.

The value of the diamond was unknown at the time of the police report.

Goof Does Water Gun "Robbery" at Kids' Lemonade Stand in Arlington Heights Immediately Following El Paso, Dayton Mass Shootings

Arlington Heights police responded about 3:46 PM Sunday to a report of a disorderly conduct in the block of 1800 North Waterman Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown male offender approached two female juveniles who were selling lemonade at a lemonade stand near their private residence. The male pointed two plastic water guns at the females and demanded free lemonade. When the juveniles refused, the male sprayed the juveniles with water from the water guns. The subject left the scene on a bicycle when a neighbor approached the lemonade stand.

The male is described as 20-30 years-old, wearing a dark colored hat, boots, and a short-sleeved shirt.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 3:45 PM.

Overnight Arson Attempt, Criminal Damage to Property at Outdoor Festival Stage at Church on Wilke Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 6:31 AM Saturday of criminal damage to property and arson at Misión San Juan Diego, 2323 North Wilke Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders criminally damaged a stage that had been set up in preparation for an annual music festival by lighting a paper bag on fire atop the stage. The flames caused charring damage to the stage but there was no structural damage as a result of the fire. The cost to repair the damage is unknown.
