Theft of Over-the-Counter Medications at Jewel-Osco on Rand Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 7:25 AM Friday of a theft at Jewel-Osco, 440 East Rand Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders removed several boxes of over-the-counter medicine, valued at $734.

The offenders are described as ...

(1) a Hispanic male, 30 years-old, 5'9" heavy build, bald head, full dark beard, wearing a dark gray jacket, jeans and brown boots; and

(2) a Hispanic female, 5'7" 30 years-old, long dark hair, wearing a black Chicago Blackhawks cap, a long black jacket, jeans and brown boots.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Friday, February 16, 2018 between 7:09 AM and 7:24 AM. The elapsed time range including the time the crime could have occurred is 0:15 (hours: minutes).

Smoke Cleared from a Parking Garage Electrical Vault Malfunction at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:43 PM Tuesday to a report of smoke from an electrical vaul in the northwest parking garage at Northwest Community Hospital, 800 West Central Road Arlington Heights, Il . Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of smoke coming from a basement electrical closet in the northwest parking garage.

Police on the scene at the Busse Center for Specialty Medicine garage, reported that an employee saw smoke, but no flames inside the parking garage.

A hospital security guard met firefighters at the scene, and reported a there was a problem with an electrical closet in a lower level.

Engine 2's crew reported smoke coming from an electrical closet.

Firefighter crews from Squad 1, Engine 2 and Mount Prospect Engine 12 entered a smoky electrical room with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA tanks) and determined there was no active fire. They determined they had smoke and no heat. Firefighters reported burnt out equipment with no active fire by 1:57 p.m.

Firefighters reported a lot of smoke in an electrical room with a CO (carbon monoxide) reading of 200 ppm. CO was zero in the parking garage. Since there was no active fire, firefighters were ordered to exit the room, and wait for and assignment after ComEd's arrival.

ComEd was requested to expedite to respond to an unknown electrical problem in an electrical vault in the Northwest Community Hospital parking garage. Firefighters connected hoses to standpipes in the parking garage in case active fire developed.

ComEd responded quickly and isolated the problem. Next, firefighters ventilated smoke and harmful gases out of the area. CO levels in the parking garage near the vault elevated slightly, as smoke and gases were cleared entirely from the area. The fire in the vault was out, and firefighters completed ventilation by about 2:58 p.m.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle on Dryden Place Near Miner Street, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 1:01 PM Monday of criminal damage to vehicle in the block of 99 North Dryden Place Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders criminally damaged the front and rear tires on the victim's 2017 green Honda Pilot. The cost to repair the damage is estimated at $325.

The crime is reported to have occurred between Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 1:00 PM and Monday, February 12, 2018 at 1:00 PM. The elapsed time range including the time the crime could have occurred is 24:00 (hours: minutes).

The location of the crime was near Dryden Place between Kensington Road and Miner Street.

Vehicle Burglary on South Belmont Ave Near Rockwell St, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 2:33 PM Friday of a vehicle burglary in the block of 700 South Belmont Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders entered the victim's unlocked 2016 white Acura MDX, although it appears nothing was taken.

Nothing was detected missing at the time of the police report.

A vehicle burglary was reported about 18 hours earlier, nearby on Mayfair Road near Banbury Lane -- 2,000 feet away.

The crime is reported to have occurred between Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 3:00 PM and Friday, February 16, 2018 at 2:32 PM. The elapsed time range including the time the crime could have occurred is 23:32 (hours: minutes).

Police received a report that the victim's black fanny-pack containing his wallet and cash were taken. The offender is described as a black male, 25-35 years old, 6'0" 180 LBS, wearing a light colored hat, blue sweatshirt and jeans.

Small Fire with Considerable Smoke at Senior Living Community Apartment on Central Rd Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:39 AM Monday to a report of an activated fire alarm at Church Creek Senior Living Community, 1250 West Central Road Arlington Heights, Il. Rolling Meadows Engine 15's crew on arrival reported a 4-story residential facility with nothing showing by 2:44 a.m.

Smoke was reported in the common area, followed by a report of a fire on the third floor by 2:47 a.m.

Firefighters were aware of a sprinkler head activated by 2:48 a.m. and the fire response was updated to a confirmed fire response by 2:48 a.m. Ambulance 3 and Squad 1 was assigned.

Firefighters reported waterflow from the west center staircase by 2:51 a.m. with considerable smoke. The fire department response was updated to a working fire response by 2:52 a.m.

An interior crew reported the fire is out by 2:54 a.m. The fire involved a heating unit near a window, and the sprinkler was still activated in the room.

An interior crew reported a heavy amount of water on the third floor.

No injuries were initially reported, and firefighters immediately went to work to ventilate the building. Significant smoke was reported in every hallway.

MABAS Division MVU-1 was requested by 3:04 a.m. and arrived at 3:28 a.m.

A 4-Gas Monitor was used to monitor air safety on all floors.

There were no reported injuries and no medical transports to Northwest Community Hospital as of 4:30 a.m.

Suspected DUI/Drugs Arrest After Crash at Arlington Heights Rd and Miner St, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police arrested a suspected DUI driver about 1:10 PM Saturday after responding to a minor crash at Arlington Heights Road and Miner Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police transported the driver in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters. The driver's vehicle was towed to a police holding area.

Police discovered that a female driver rear-ended another vehicle in the southbound lanes of Arlington Heights Road near Miner Street.

The driver was suspected of DUI according to police protocol, and was arrested about 1:55 p.m., She was then transported to a temporary holding area.

Megan Leoffler, age 23 of Vernon Hills, was charged with suspected DUI/Drugs and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

Leoffler was released on I-Bond.

Court date for Megan Leoffler is scheduled at Cook County Circuit Court Rolling Meadows on March 15, 2018.

Apartment Kitchen Fire on East Seeger Road Near Goebbert Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:50 AM Saturday to a report of a fire in a kitchen at The Residences 543 East Seeger Road Arlington Heights, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a fire in a kitchen in an apartment -- possibly with paper burning on the floor. The caller reported the apartment was filling up with smoke.

Engine 3's on arrival reported a 2-story multi-family residential building with nothing showing from two sides.

Engine 3's crew entering the apartment with a pre-connect line through the patio door by 6:58 a.m.

Mount Prospect Engine 12's crew assigned to pull out a backup line to the patio door.

Engine 3's crew reported the fire is out by 7:02 a.m.

Firefighters were setting up positive ventilation by 7:02 a.m.

A fire investigator and Arlington Heights Building Department inspector were requested to respond to the scene.

Primary search complete and negative by 7:12 AM.
