Two Sick Passengers From Liberia Arrive At O'hare Tuesday, Screened Negative For Ebola

Two passengers who arrived at O'Hare International Airport on Tuesday from Liberia were under observation at University of Chicago Medical Center and Rush University Medical Center as part of the Chicago's infectious disease protocols designed to responded passengers who experience nausea and other illnesses during their flights.

Officials reported they decided against Ebola testing for the two, who were traveling separately, after medical evaluations.

One of the passengers is a child who reportedly vomited once during the flight from Liberia. The child was screened by federal authorities immediately upon landing and was found to have no other symptoms and no known Ebola exposure risk. The child was transported to the U. of C. Medical Center for ongoing observation in isolation and, per City of Chicago protocols, his family was under quarantine until that evaluation was completed.


The second passenger,was an adult traveling from Liberia, who reported nausea and diarrhea. The passenger reported having been diagnosed with typhoid fever in August but had a normal temperature and reported no known risk of Ebola exposure during a screening. The man, who traveling alone, was transported to Rush University Medical Ceter for medical evaluation.
