2 Shot on Dodge Ave Sidewalk; Niles Man Killed in Evanston After Surviving Shooting at Former Siblings Bar in Chicago

Evanston police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:20 AM Monday to a report of two people shot in the block of 1800 Dodge Avenue Evanston, IL. Police on the scene discovered that one man was killed and a second man was injured in the shooting. Police on scene found two men shot near the sidewalk just north of Lyons Street.

Before police arrived, two male suspects were seen by witnesses riding northbound on Dodge on bicycles, according to police.

Donte Blackwell, 23, of Niles was shot once in the torso, according to police. He was taken to Evanston Hospital and was pronounced dead. A 21-year-old Evanston man was shot in the arm and leg. He was transported to Evanston Hospital and treated for injuries considered to be non-life-threatening, police said.

The Evanston Police Department detective division is investigating the shooting with the assistance of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF).

The dead man was known by police with previous arrests on record. The bar was closed for building inspection issues after neighbors complained at a CAPS meeting about noise and violence connected with the bar.

Police activity in the area continued well into the morning hours Monday.
