Fatal Fire on West Waverly Court Near Raleigh S, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:57 AM Tuesday to a report of a house fire with people trapped at 1618 West Waverly Court Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that the house was on fire with two people trapped inside the house. A woman reported that her husband was on fire inside the house. She was able to escape to the front yard, but she reported her daughter and husband were trapped inside the house.

Arlington Heights Battalion Chief upgraded the fire to a working fire response by 2:01 a.m. with the report of a two people trapped in the house and two animals trapped in the house. Both the husband and daughter were reported to be trapped in a first floor bedroom.

Police were first on the scene by 2:03 a.m.and reported the front door was fully engulfed with flames when they arrived.

The daughter was able to escape by 2:04 a.m. into the backyard with two police officers involved in the rescue and evacuation. An extra ambulance was requested to the scene.

The daughter reported she last saw her father inside the front door near the den. Arlington Heights firefigher/paramedics from Ambulance 2's crew came to the aid of the daughter in the backyard while firefighter crews from Arlington Heights Engine 2 and Palatine Quint 83 worked on further searches and fire suppression.

Arlington Heights Squad 2's firefighting crew also went interior for a dedicated search assignment for any possible additional victims or pets. engine 2 found the man deceased inside the house by about 2:14 a.m.

Ambulance 1's crew was standing by to receive their patient, but was released when firefighters determined the man was killed in the fire. The State Fire Marshal was requested to the scene by Deputy Chief 101 for investigation of a fatal fire by about 2:16 a.m.

The fire was reported out by 2:17 a.m. with Palatine Quint 83's assigned to search the basement.

The mother and daughter were transported to a local hospital. One of the animals, a dachshund, escaped to the yard and was rescued by a firefighter who secured him inside Engine 2's cab. The whereabouts of the second pet was unknown at the time of the report.

Fire officials did not yet declare whether active smoke detectors were functioning at the time of the fire. The fire is under investigation.
