Ford Minivan Fire on Northbound Route 53 Just South of Kirchoff RdRolling Meadows
Rolling Meadows firefighter/paramedics and Illinois State Police troopers responded about 3:32 PM Saturday to a vehicle fire on 42.078621, -88.028950 (Northbound Route 53 and Kirchoff Rd Rolling Meadows, IL). Firefighter/paramedics received a report that the driver escaped his Ford minivan before it was on fire. Witnesses on Route 53 reported that the driver got out of the Ford minivan that was on fire. the engine compartment was fully-engulfed with heavy smoke pushing across lanes of traffic on Route 53.
Rolling Meadows Fire Department's Battalion Chief 15 upon arrival reported a confirmed vehicle fire.
BC15 reported "fire out" and no injuries on scene at 3:45 p.m.
Northbound Route 53 traffic was still backed up to I-90 at 4:20 PM, but the backup length was diminishing by 4:25 pm.
