Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:51 PM Friday to a report of a semi-trailer truck crash, Lake Cook Road and Schaefer Road Arlington Heights, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a truck crashed through a fence and crashed into a tree. Initially police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that the truck driver was up walking around, but the truck driver was actually pinned in the truck.

Engine 4's crew on arrival by 2:57 p.m. reported the driver was pinned in, and request Buffalo Grove Tower Ladder 25's crew for assistance. The patient was difficult to access because of the fence, tree, shrubs and debris surrounding the truck. The truck driver was extricated by 3:08 p.m.

A significant amount of diesel fuel also spilled from the truck -- possibly from one of the saddle tanks. There was a very strong, sickening smell of diesel fuel in the neighborhood.
