Smoke Report Turns Out to Be Malicious Discharge of Fire Extinguisher at Multi-Family Building Ridge Ave and Eastman St, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 9:16 PM Sunday of criminal damage to property in the block of 500 West Eastman Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighters responded to a report of "smell of smoke" and white smoke in the basement laundry room area of an apartment building. Firefighters first entered the basement and confirmed a haze in the air. Firefighters soon discovered that the haze was caused by a malicious discharge of a fire extinguisher. A dry chem fire extinguisher was left on the floor near the basement laundry room.

Police received a report from firefighters that an unknown offender or offenders unlawfully discharged a fire extinguisher near a laundry room in an apartment common area.

The crime is reported to have occurred shortly before 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2019.
