Driver Charged, Suspected of DUI After Stopping SUV, Bocking Traffic in the Middle of Hawthorne St West of Douglas Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police arrested a DUI driver 7:00 AM Tuesday to a report that a driver was possibly impaired or in need of a check for well-being near Douglas Avenue and Marshall Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that a driver of an SUV was stopped in the middle of Hawthorne Street and was not moving when another motorist pulled up behind the SUV.

Police arrived in a few minutes and found the vehicle had moved to Marshall Street, parked eastbound at the curb just west of Douglas Avenue. As police arrived, the driver of the SUV turned southbound on Douglas Avenue and stopped for the police traffic stop on southbound Douglas Avenue between Marshall Street and Hawthorne Street.

The female driver of the SUV -- a Honda Pilot -- was given a field sobriety test, but refused to complete the walking portion of the test after apparently failing the initial part of the field sobriety test. The driver was arrested at the scene and handcuffed.

Police transported the female driver in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters. The driver's Honda Pilot was towed to a police holding area.

Court date was not initially available.
