Barking Dog Saves Family From Attached Garage Fire That Spread To House On Evergreen Court In Palatine

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:01 AM Monday to a report of an attached garage fire at 762 West Evergreen Avenue. Police and firefighter/paramedics received several calls for help. First a neighbor across the street reported the neighbor's garage was on fire. The homeowner also called 9-1-1 and reported that everyone was out of the house, thanks to a barking dog that woke up family members that were all sleeping.

The first fire engine on the scene reported the garage on fire and that their deck gun would be used on the burning garage. Firefighters also used two hand lines on the fire -- one to the garage, and the other two the first floor of the house.

The attached garage, first-floor utility room, and two vehicles parked on the driveway had significant damage. Smoke damage occurred throughout the house. Firefighters worked after the fire was extinguished to ventilate the smoke out of the house.

Firefighter/paramedics from Rolling Meadows, Palatine Rural FPD, and Long Grove FPD assisted Palatine firefighters either on the scene or standing by in stations.
