Multiple Crashes: Dangerous, Icy Bridges On Route 53, Route 59, Route 20, Elgin O’Hare Expressway, Tri-State

Numerous crashes have been reported Monday night on Route 53, Route 59, the Elgin O'Hare Expressway, and the Tri-State.

The entire Elgin O'Hare Expressway was closed in both directions with all entrance ramps blocked. There is early report of about 15 injuries, and one pedestrian struck and injured as the victim was standing outside of their vehicle.

Firefighter/paramedics from Bloomingdale, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, South Elgin, Wood Dale and others assisted Roselle firefighter/paramedics on the Elgin O'Hare Expressway. 

At least three crashes were reported between 9:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on southbound Route 53. One crash at the Route 53 bridge over Palatine Road, one crash by Algonquin Road, and one crash involving several spinouts in the expressway lane near Woodfield Road.

Another crash was reported on northbound Route 53 south of Euclid Avenue.

Several crashes were reported on the Tri-State -- one at the Tri-State northbound at mile marker 46. One crash was also reported at the Tri-State and Lake Cook Road.

Hoffman Estates firefighters were working on a crash or crashes at the Route 59 bridge over Interstate 90.

A crash was also reported on eastbound Lake Street at Route 59 with one vehicle on its side.

Illinois State Police called for backup from local law enforcement, including Palatine, Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg to block entrance ramps.
