Lightning Strike Causes Small Attic Fire On Partridge Ct, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:13 PM Sunday to a report of an odor of something burning in the block of 1600 Partridge Court Arlington Heights, IL. While police and firefighter/paramedics were en route, they received an updated report that the homeowners now saw a light haze in a second floor room in the condominium/townhouse.

Firefighters pulled down the ceiling to expose a small attic fire with heavy smoke in the attic. A truck crew used ground ladders to access the roof and discovered a small hole indicating a lightning strike had occurred. The truck crew opened a small hole in the roof to ventilate smoke and hot gases out of the attic. The fire was contained to a very small area of the attic. An engine crew had the fire extinguished within 10 minutes.

Firefighters from Buffalo Grove and Palatine responded auto-aid to the report of the house fire. Most crews left the scene by 10:00 p.m.

There were no reports of any injuries.
