House Fire On South Dunton Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:12 PM Tuesday to a report of a house fire in the block of 400 South Dunton Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics responded to a house were contractors were working on either construction or repairs -- possibly related to water pipes in the house. A neighbor said he thought contractors may have been fixing frozen pipes, but this has not been confirmed.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.

The first police officer on the scene helped evacuate residents and pets that were in the house at the time the fire broke out. The residents and pets sought safety in an SUV with the engine and heat running on the driveway. Smoke conditions were heavy inside the house, but no smoke was visible outside the house.

Firefighters from Mount Prospect and Rolling Meadows assisted Arlington Heights firefighters, who brought power cord, electric lights, thermal cameras, saws and extra long pike poles to search for fire behind walls and between walls and fascia.

No injuries were reported. Residents at the home were not displaced.

Utilities were called to the scene, and the Arlington Heights Building Department also responded to the scene.

Public works and firefighters applied "salt" or other treatment on the streets to prevent icing.

Air temperature during firefighting and overhaul was about 2 degrees with a wind chill ranging from about -5 to -7. Winds were calm or southwest at about 5 mph -- which may have helped prevent rapid spread of fire.

The house fire last night was one block south of a house fire that killed three women about 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 2013. Damage was so extensive that the cause of the fire has not been determined. However, arson and foul play was ruled out at the November fire, which originated in the kitchen.
