Theft By Deception At Downtown Metra Train Station, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 8:55 PM Sunday of a theft by deception at the Metra Train Station, 45 West Northwest Highway Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that the victim arranged via Craigslist to purchase gift cards valued at $850 and $580. The victim met with an unknown male/black subject, verified the gift cards had money on them and purchased the gift cards from the subject. The victim later attempted to use the gift cards and learned the gift cards had been reported lost/stolen; and therefore the gift cards had a zero balance and could not be used.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Sunday April 13, 2014 at 4:55 p.m.

At an earlier date in March, the victim purchased gift cards of a lower value from the same suspect. There gift cards were used sucessfully for a transaction. The suspect later called the victim and told the victim that he had some more gift cards of higher value, but it was the higher value gift cards purchase from the suspect on April 13 that were invalid.
