Pickup Truck Crashes Into Apartment/Condo, Ruptures Residential Natural Gas Line At Brockway St And Colfax St, Palatine

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:03 PM Friday to a report of a cash into an apartment building at Colfax Street and Brockway Street Palatine, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a pickup truck crashed into an apartment building.

Police and firefighter/paramedics also received a report that there was a smell of natural gas in the area. Palatine's Battalion Chief requested Nicor to the scene immediately. A very strong smell of natural gas was in the neighborhood police blocked street about a one block perimeter around Brockway Street and Colfax Street.

Wind was north at about 12 MPH at the time of the incident.

Firefighters immediately went to work to evacuate the building where a pickup truck appeared to have crossed Brockway Street in reverse and crash into an apartment building on the northwest corner of Brockway Street and Colfax Street.

Firefighters set up a standby hose line and worked to check the structure and stabilize the structure.

Firefighers also used fans to ventilate the gas that filled the interior of at least one apartment/condo unit.

No injuries were reported.

Leak was reported stopped at about 6:22 p.m. gas was shut off to two apartment units in the building.
