Diy Large Tree Removal Requires Rescue And A Little Help From Arlington Heights Public Works Forestry Department

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:07 PM Saturday to a report of a tree hazard near Hawthorne Street and Pine Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a man was taking down a large tree when he became alarmed that the tree might not fall in the direction that he intended.

Concerned about the potential danger, the man bringing down the tree, suspended his do it yourself project and called 9-1-1 for help

The tree was secured with a cable with the intention of bringing down the tree in a southwesterly direction onto an empty lawn in the front yard. However, while sawing at the base, the cable tension increased dramatically -- indicating the tree might fall in a northeasterly direction across Hawthorne Street and onto some overhead information utility lines.

Firefighters investigated the scene and called for the public works duty man to respond to the scene. Tree experts from the forestry department responded to the scene and secured another line at a higher angle and secured it to the frame of a pickup truck.

With additional sawing and some tension from the pickup truck line, the tree fell in the intended direction onto the front lawn.
