Firefighters Rescue Construction Worker That Fell In A Hole In A Foundation At Oakton St And Gibbons Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:11 PM Thursday to in the block of 1000 North Gibbons Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a male construction worker fell into a hole in a foundation.

Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics responded with a rescue squad, rescue ambulance and engine company from Fire Station 2, and went to work on a basic technical rescue.

Firefighters used a ladder to get down into the foundation and then lowered a Stokes basket, which is used for patient transport hard-to-reach locations. The construction worker was raised out of the foundation in the Stokes basket and transferred to Arlington Heights Fire Department Ambulance 2. He was transported to Northwest Community Hospital. He appeared to be conscious and alert, but his condition was not released by firefighter/paramedics at the scene.

Neighbors said workers had been at work since 7:00 a.m. this morning, and believed excavation for the foundation at a home under renovation may have started about three weeks ago.
