Newborn Calf "Arlington" Born At 5:00 Am At Frontier Days, Recreation Park

11:01 PM Sunday . Mo Beeler, owner and operator of M & A Stables "Pony Rides & Petting Zoo" was walking his dogs about 5:00 a.m. when he heard his pregnant cow let out a loud Moo.

The wasn't due for another two weeks, but Mo was pretty sure he knew what was happening. He rushed back to his petting zoo at Belmont Avenue and Miner Street and discovered a calf was already born.

The mother was very protective of the newborn calf, and initially he couldn't get close enough to determine the sex of the newborn. Later in the day he determined the calf was a female. He named her "Arlington" in honor of her birthplace.

The calf was up walking by Sunday afternoon -- sometimes with a little help from her mother . Later in the day, anyone bringing a dog near the pen would get an intense stare from the mother -- at one point charging the edge of the pen in the direction of a dog standing too close for comfort (see the end of the video). Mo said this is the protective instinct of the mother -- protecting against coyote attacks.
