Motorist Escapes Minivan Fire After Crash On I-90 Just East Of Meacham Rd Near Schaumburg

Illinois State police and Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:16 AM Saturday to a report of a crash with entrapment and vehicle fire on 42.059362,-88.044183 (I-90 and Meacham Road Schaumburg, IL). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a person appeared to be trying to pry the door open in a minivan that was involved in a crash. The vehicle was later reported to be on fire.

The motorist was able to get out of the minivan just as firefighters arrived. The minivan fire was extinguished by firefighters from Engine 54's crew.

The crash was located at mile marker 67.5, according to Illinois State police who arrived on the scene first. Firefighters reported seeing a fire ahead from mile marker 67.25 at about 7:19 am. Firefighters on the scene then reported the front end of the vehicle was on fire in the left shoulder with lanes one and two blocked.

Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics from Ambulance 54's crew were treating one patient by 7:25 a.m. The fire was also extinguished by 7:25 a.m.

A second vehicle was possibly involved in the crash about one-half mile ahead on eastbound I-90. Illinois State Police were investigating.

Eastbound traffic was backed up to about Roselle Road with traffic congestion expected to clear by about 8:15 a.m.
