Dog Killed In Early Morning House Fire On Deerpath Rd, Just South Of Lake Cook Rd In Unincorporated Barrington Near Palatine

Palatine firefighter/paramedics and Cook County Sheriff's Police responded about 1:29 AM Wednesday to a report of a kitchen fire at a house at 115 S Deerpath Road Palatine, IL. The first Palatine Fire Department crews arrived on the scene at 1:37 a.m. and reported smoke showing from the rear of the one-story, single family residence. The
first fire companies pulled a hose line and aggressively attacked the fire that was determined to be in the basement of the house, while other firefighters pulled a second hose line to the first floor. Still other firefighters searched the smoke-charged house for any trapped occupants. Other crews provided ventilation and medical coverage. Due to the location of the house in an area without fire hydrants, firefighters stretched a supply line to Lake Cook Road, where a portable water tank was set up to provide a water supply. The source of the water was at Lake Cook Road ad Quentin Road. This tank was kept full by tanker trucks that shuttled water from a hydrant approximately a mile away.

Firefighters had to open numerous walls and ceilings to expose the fire for extinguishment. The fire was declared under control at 1:58 a.m. Firefighters continued to ventilate smoke and gases and perform salvage and overhaul
activities for some time after that.

No civilians or firefighters were injured in the fire, but one dog succumbed to the smoke.

The fire left the home uninhabitable, displacing four occupants. Damage estimates are not available at the time of this
release, and the fire remains under investigation by Palatine Fire Department investigators.

The fire was fought by 33 firefighters, staffing three engines, two ladder trucks, one rescue squad, three ambulances and four water tender (tanker) trucks, which responded to the scene along with three command officers and two Fire Investigators. This area is part of the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District, and is served by the Palatine Fire Department under a contractual agreement. Along with the Palatine and Palatine Rural units, crews from the Lake Zurich and Long Grove Fire Departments were among the initial responders to the scene as part of an automatic aid agreement.

Water tenders or tankers from the Barrington Countryside and Prospect Heights Fire Districts also responded upon confirmation of a working fire. Long Grove firefighters also responded with a water tanker.

Cook County Sheriff's Police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.

The Palatine Fire Department reminds everyone to have working smoke detectors in their homes, whether a single-family dwelling, an apartment or a condo. Have an escape plan, practice it, and be prepared to use it in
the event of any fire.
