Chemistry Experiment Goes Bad At Rolling Meadows High School, Activates Fire Alarm, Short Evacuation Into Cold Weather, Rolling Meadows

Rolling Meadows police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:34 PM Thursday to an activated fire alarm at Rolling Meadows High School 2901 Central Road Rolling Meadows, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a class chemistry experiment went bad and activated the fire alarm. Firefighters also received a report that students from the affected area of the classroom were being evacuated to the field house.

First firefighters on the scene reported the high school had nothing showing, but there was evacuation of people out of the school.

An employee reported to firefighters that there was some type of smoke in the chemistry lab area.

After a school closure yesterday because of Wind Chill Warning conditions all District 214 school re-opened today.

Most firefighter crews were returned except for the crews of Engine 16 and Ambulance 16. All people evacuated were immediately brought back into the school by 12:36 p.m. Air temperature was about 2°F and wind chill was about -20°F at the time of the incident.
