Possible Red Light Runner Hits Cadillac, Rolls Her Minivan At Oakton St And Higgins Rd East Of Busse Rd, Elk Grove Village

Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:57 PM Thursday to a report of a rollover crash with injuries at 42.022327,-87.958358 (Oakton Street and Higgins Road Elk Grove Village, IL East Intersection). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a vehicle crashed and rolled over at Oakton Street and Higgins Road -- the east intersection near the Shell gas station across from La Quinta.

Firefighter/paramedics on the scene reported that one female was trapped in a minivan that was resting on its passenger side. The female driver was alone inside the car. She was semi-conscious and lying on the passenger side.

Witnesses said the minivan was eastbound on Oakton Street when it went through a red light. A vehicle in the left lane making the turn from northbound Higgins Road to westbound Higgins Road/Oakton Street abruptly stopped when the driver saw the eastbound minivan running a red light. The driver of a Cadillac deVille in the right lane, where left turns are also permissible, was clipped in the front end by the minivan. The minivan went airborne with a cartwheel and landed on its passenger side with the front end facing west. The driver of the minivan was not wearing a seatbelt.

Firefighters needed to stabilize the minivan and cut the roof to remove the driver. Although she was classified a possible Level I trauma patient, she was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital was on bypass at the time.

The driver of the Cadillac reported no immediate injury. The Cadillac deVille was a 1998 model with less than 100,000 miles. The driver was the second owner of the vehicle.

Oakton/Higgins and Busse, just west of the crash site is a photo-enforced red light intersection.
