Shooting Victim in Lake Villa Suspected in Home Invasion or Burglary in Salem, Wisconsin

A man who was shot and ended up inside the PMO Club bar in Lake Villa Monday has been arrested in connection with a burglary in Wisconsin, police said.

Justin K. Diedrich, 23, has been charged with one felony count of obstructing a peace officer by providing false information about his alleged involvement in a burglary in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff's office. Diedrich was also charged with one count of being a "fugitive from justice," police said.

Police found Diedrich with a gunshot wound just before 10:00 p.m. Monday at PMO Club in Lake Villa, where he arrived with a gunshot wound. Simultaneously, police had responded to a report of a shooting in the 37400 block of North Route 59 near the intersection of Route 59 and Bald Eagle Road.

Firefighter/paramedics discovered a gunshot wound that involved a bullet going through the victim's arm and torso.

Just prior to the discovery of the shooting victim in Lake VIlla, the Kenosha County sheriff's office was investigating a home invasion that involved a shooting with possibly the homeowner and assailant injured. Kenosha County shared information with the Lake County sheriff's office. An initial investigation determined Diedrich was "at the scene of the Kenosha County incident," according to the sheriff's statement.

The Kenosha shooting happened at 9:30 p.m. Monday in the 22000 block of 121st Street in Salem, Wisconsin. Kenosha County sheriff's police said they were called to a subdivision there after a male had been "shot by one of two assailants," according to a statement. After getting hit by a bullet, the homeowner apparently fired a gun of his own, and hit one of the two assailants. Lake Villa is about 10 miles from Salem, WIsconsin.

It was not confirmed if someone helped Diedrich into the bar from the nearby street, or if Diedrich made it into PMO Club on his own.

After Lake Villa authorities found Diedrich on Monday night, he was transported by Lake Villa firefighter/paramedics to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. When Diedrich is released, he will be transported to Lake County Jail to await extradition to Kenosha County.
