Elk Grove Man Wanted for Murder Arrested at Cook County Courthouse While in Court for Another Case Friday

Joshua Johnson, age 23, of Elk Grove Village has been charged with murder in the 2013 fatal shooting of a 68-year-old man in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood.

Johnson was arrested Friday after being identified in connection to the murder of the man on Dec. 12, 2013. Johnson was also charged with one felony count of attempted armed robbery, according to Chicago police.

The 68-year-old man, Cayetano Sandoval, was returning home from his job at an Avondale neighborhood bakery when was robbed, beaten and shot. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest in the 1900 block of North Spaulding Avenue in Chicago, police said.

Johnson was being held without bail in Cook County jail.

A second person who has not been charged was an accomplice, who apparently fired the shots. Sandoval was hit four times in the torso. Five 9-millimeter shell casings were found at the scene, and the shooting was captured on surveillance video.

Johnson, who lives in the 1900 block of Oakton Street in Elk Grove Village was apprehended by Chicago police at the Cook County Circuit Courthouse in Rolling Meadows where he was at a court hearing for another case.

Johnson was held without bail. He was discharged from parole in 2013 after two convictions -- burglary in Cook County and a burglary in DuPage County.
