Explosion Heard at the Time of Detached Garage Fire on Camp McDonald Rd Near School St, Prospect Heights
Prospect Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:18 PM Sunday to a report of a garage fire at 204 East Camp McDonald Road Prospect Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that garage was on fire. The Prospect Heights Battalion Chief reported a fully-involved garage fire upon arrival.
The fire response was upgraded to a working fire at 9:21 p.m.
Several witnesses from as far as Arlington Heights and Wheeling reported hearing an explosion in the area at the time of the fire. Firefighters learned there were 55 gallons of racing fuel and acetylene torches inside the detached garage, which was located at the rear property line.
The fire was reported out at 9:51 p.m.
There were no known injuries reported at the fire scene. At the time of this report it was unknown if there was any damage to neighboring homes or windows or to the large home on the same property as the detached garage that burned.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Township, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, Mount Prospect, Northbrook, and Palatine Rural fire departments assisted Prospect Heights Fire Protection District.
Camp McDonald Road was closed during firefighting operations Sunday night.
