Record June Rain for State of Illinois, but Chicago's June Ranks 16th at the end of June 28, 2015

The State of Illinois is reporting record rainfall for June in 2015. Rainfall records go back to 1895.

State climatologist Jim Angel reported this weekend that through Saturday, the statewide average rainfall total for the month was 8.91 inches, which exceeds the previous record June in 1902, of 8.27 inches of average rainfall in Illinois.

More rain is forecast across much of Monday and Tuesday -- the last two days of June 2015.

According to Jim Angel, four of the five wettest June months in state history have occurred since 1998.

Chicago's record June is 10.58 inches, recorded in 1892. Including June 28, 2015, the month-to-date rainfall for Chicago is 6.33 inches, which ranks 16th.

Since 2000, the years 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2012 have had below normal rainfall in June in Chicago.

In 2007 only 0.76 inches of rain fell in Chicago. In 2012, only 0.90 inches of rain fell in Chicago.
