Kitchen Fire Quickly Extinguished by Palatine Firefighters on Evergreen Drive Near Rand Rd

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:29 p.m. Thursday, July 09, 2015 to the report of an activated smoke detector at 1433 E Evergreen Dr. in Palatine.

The first Palatine Fire Department crews arrived on the scene at 11:34 p.m. and reported smoke in the hallway of the second floor. The first fire companies forced entry into the apartment, while other firefighters stretched a supply line to a fire hydrant and pulled one (1) hose line into the building. Interior crews found a kitchen fire which they extinguished with a fire extinguisher.

Firefighters also searched the smoke-charged unit and found no occupants. The fire was declared under control at 11:44 pm. Firefighters continued to ventilate smoke and gases for some time following extinguishment of the fire.

No civilians or firefighters were injured in the fire.

Damage estimates are not available at the time of this release, and the fire remains under investigation by Palatine Fire Department investigators.

The fire was fought by 23 firefighters, staffing four engines, one ladder trucks, one rescue squad and three ambulances which responded to the scene along with two command officers and two Fire Investigators. A fire engine and ambulance from Arlington Heights Fire Station 4 assisted as part of an automatic aid agreement.

Palatine Police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.

The Palatine Fire Department reminds everyone to have working smoke detectors in their homes, whether a single-family dwelling, an apartment or a condo. Have an escape plan, practice it, and be prepared to use it in
the event of any fire.
