Commercial Building Fire on , Elk Grove Village

Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:15 AM Tuesday to a report of a building on fire just south of the Korner House at Elmhurst Road and Old Higgins Road Elk Grove Village, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics arrived to find a commercial building full-involved with fire at the southeast corner of Elmhurst Road and Old Higgins Road.

The building was believed to be vacant, but occupied buildings just to the south were at risk from exposure to the fire.

A MABAS Box Alarm was requested by Elk Grove Township's Battalion Chief. The fire jurisdiction was believed to be covered by Elk Grove Township.

On the north side of the building, Elk Grove Village firefighters immediately went to work with a deck gun from Engine 9, while Elk Grove Township firefighters worked a heavy water stream from a multi-versal on the ground in front of the building.

The crew from Elk Grove Village Tower 7 setup their Tower Ladder with an elevated stream dousing the fire into the collapsed roof from the north side of the building.

The crew from Des Plaines Tower 63 did the same from the east side of the building.

Firefighters also directed a master stream from the ground on the west side of the building.

The aggressive use of multiple water streams kept the fire from spreading to structures to the south of the fire. Winds at the time of the fire were from the northwest about 15-16 MPH and gusting up to 26 MPH.

No injuries were reported.

Elmhurst Road was closed in both directions just south of Higgins Road.

Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Hoffman Estates, Itasca, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, Rolling Meadows, Rosemont, and Wood Dale worked at the scene of the fire

Firefighters from Long Grove and Roselle provided standby coverage in area fire stations.

The building appeared to be a 2-unit building with the fire possibly starting in the east unit.
