Evanston Police Hear Shots Fired, See 2 Suspects Run into House at Lake St and Darrow Ave, Evanston -- Barricade Incident
Evanston police responded about 4:15 PM Wednesday when they heard gunshots in the area of Lake Street and Darrow Avenue Evanston, IL. While searching the area, police saw two people run into a home in the block of 1800 Lake Street and smelled gunpowder in the air -- one block southeast of Evanston Township High School.
Witnesses said they saw the two males shoot at another group of people on Darrow Avenue, just north of the residence.
While police officers surrounded the 2 1/2-story house, other police officers searched for any possible gunshot victims.
Several people exited the building and the police were able to apprehend their two suspects. A loaded .380 caliber handgun was recovered inside the house.
Arrested was a boy, who was not named by police because he is a juvenile. The boy was petitioned to court for five felonies: aggravated discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a street gang member, unlawful possession of a firearm under 18 years of age, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and reckless conduct, according to Police Commander Joe Dugan
A man accompanying the boy was also arrested, but he had not been charged at the time of this report.
The boy was transported in custody to the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center, 1100 South Hamilton Avenue, Chicago.
