Arson Fire at Former Yanni's Restaurant Building at Algonguin Rd and Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:37 PM Sunday to investigate a report of smoke in the area near 10 East Algonquin Road Arlington Heights, Il. Arlington Heights firefighters responded Sunday night to a fire that is believed to have been intentionally set at the former Yanni's Restaurant at the northeast corner of Arlington Heights Road and Rand Road.

Engine 3's crew initially responded to a report of smoke in the area of Algonquin Road and Arlington Heights Road.

Engine 3's crew on arrival at about 8:42 p.m. reported a fire inside the former Yanni's restaurant at 10 East Algonquin Road.

E3 crew worked on forcible entry and discovered a fire in the middle of the building that did not involve any structure of the vacant restaurant.

Engine 3's crew called for a power saw from Tower Ladder 1's crew at 8:47 pm, but the saw was not needed. Engine 3's crew knocked the fire down from the outside with a hose line from tank water by 8:50 p.m. An unsecured door was found, and firefighters searched the building for an additional fire.

Firefighters worked on ventilating the building by 8:57 pm. Firefighters from Tower Ladder 1's crew checked the roof for any extension of fire to roof structures by 9:00 pm. No extension was found,

A fire investigator was called to the scene.
