House Fire Kills Pet on Kenilworth Ave Near Elm Street, Prospect Heights
Prospect Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:52 PM Sunday to a report of a house fire at 202 West Kenilworth Ave Prospect Heights, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a house fire with one car parked on the driveway. The passerby did not know if anyone was inside of the house.
Prospect Heights Battalion Chief reported heavy smoke in the area, and confirmed a working fire upon arrival.
Fire seemed most intense near the breezeway and garage of the home. Firefighters ventilated the home by breaking windows and cutting a hole in the roof over the garage.
A large cat was removed from the home and carried to the front bumper of Squad 9, where firefighters attempted to revive the animal with CPR and oxygen. The pet unfortunately perished -- apparently from smoke inhalation.
