Metra Train Hits Honda Passenger Car at Plum Grove Rd, Palatine

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:29 PM Wednesday to a report of a crash involving a car and a Metra train 42.110385, -88.042651 (Metra UP Northwest Line and Palatine Rd, Palatine, Il). Police and firefighter/paramedics on the scene discovered a Honda Civic with minor rear end damage spun around on the south side of the Union Pacific Northwest Line tracks at Plum Grove Road.

No injuries were reported.

Palatine Road and Plum Grove Road were blocked during investigation and cleanup at the crash scene. Brockway Street was not blocked.

Even after a slow acceleration from the train station about feet away, the train required about 430 feet to stop after hitting the car.

The point of impact was about 1,300 feet away from the Palatine train station.
