Garbage Truck Hits Low Power Line on Beverly Land North of Hawthorne St, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:18 PM Friday to a report of crash involving a garbage truck and a power line near 746 N Beverly Lane Arlington Heights, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics discovered that garbage truck hit a low power line that was hanging over the street -- connected to a streetlight.

Impact snapped and brought down the wood streetlight pole. There was also possibly a transformer atop the street light pole which fell into the garbage truck bin.

The transformer was leaking mineral oil, which was initially an unknown chemical leak dripping over the garbage truck diesel saddle tanks.

Firefighters checked for live power lines, diked the fluid leak when it was an unknown chemical, and used adsorbent material to collect the leaking fluid.

ComEd has several crews on the scene for repair.

Groot responded immediately with managers and a vehicle repair crew.

No residents lost power. The neighborhood has been considering underground power line upgrades, but apparently three households rejected the proposal recently.
