Fire Through Roof of Strip Mall Near Eisenhower Expressway and Kedzie Destroys Family Dollar and Urban Beautique, Chicago

Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:24 PM Monday report of a large strip mall fire at 423 South Kedzie Ave Chicago, Il. Chicago firefighters on arrival reported fire through the roof of a strip mall.

A fire in a strip mall about 150 feet by 150 feet was visible for miles according to CBS 2's Greg Kelly. Passersby on I-290 also reported the fire, which was just north of I-290, was visible for miles.

Fire command at 7:24 p.m. immediately requested a Still and Box alarm for extra firefighters to fight the fire at the strip mall.

A 2-11 Alarm fire was requested by 7:43 p.m., bringing an extra four fire engine, two ladder trucks and a tower ladder truck.

Special equipment, including a reserve snorkel truck, a water deluge gun truck and a hose wagon truck, were also requested to the scene.

A Hazmat Level I was also requested at the scene.

No injuries were reported.

Staging for firefighters and extra equipment was placed at Kedzie and Jackson
