Theft by Deception on Computer on Highland Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report 12:01 PM Wednesday of telephone fraud and deception involving a phone call answered in the block of 1500 South Highland Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender contacted the victim via email. The email stated the victim's computer had been hacked and payment was due to fix the computer. The victim provided the offender with $350 in iTunes gift cards.

It was not clear if the offender had actually locked up the computer (for ransom) or if the offender fraudulently claimed there was a problem with the computer to deceived the victim.


The crime is reported to have occurred on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 12:00 PM and 12:00 PM.
