Motorist Points Gun at Off-Duty Cop on I-290/Route 53, Travels to Deer Park Panera Bread; Here's What Happened

Multiple police agencies responded about 7:05 PM Thursday to a report of an unlawful use of weapon northbound Route 53 that began on northbound I-290 at Biesterfield and ended as an investigation of a man at Panera Bread in Deer park Town Center 20530 Rand Rd #448, Deer Park, IL. Police received a 9-1-1 call from an off-duty police officer that a male driver displayed a handgun.

The offender was driving a gray Kia Sorento with the off-duty police officer following after witness the unlawful use of a weapon.

The offender was a male/white driver that displayed a gun with his right hand. The offender was traveling about 64-68 mph.

The offender allegedly displayed a handgun again on northbound Route 53 near Euclid Avenue.

The offender continued northbound on Route 53 and the spur, then exited westbound on Lake Cook Road, and then took Rand Road to Deer Park Town Center. He parked his Kia Sorento near the Barnes & Noble and Panera Bread. At this point several police units from multiple agencies were following. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody at or near Panera Bread by 7:26 p.m.
