Hit-and-Run Driver Runs from Scene, Leaves His Shoes at Arlington Heights Rd and Euclid Ave Arlington Heights,

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:54 PM Saturday to a report of a crash with air bag deployment at Arlington Heights Road and Euclid Avenue Arlington Heights, Il . Police arrived and were told that the driver of one vehicle fled the scene on foot. The driver of a black VW fled the scene, leaving his shoes on the side walk on the scene when they were apparently slowing him down. The fleeing motorist was described as a male/white, possibly in his 20s. He was last seen running eastbound on Euclid Avenue.

A K-9 unit was called in to search the neighborhood near Arlington Heights Road and Euclid Avenue. The suspect was not found in the neighborhood.

Police were developing leads to locate the suspect from vehicle information.

Before the crash, the hit-and-run driver was driving his black VW eastbound on Euclid Avenue, west of Arlington Heights Road. He hit a vehicle further west on Euclid Avenue before rear-ending a vehicle stopped on eastbound Euclid Avenue in a significant crash. The driver of the victim's vehicle was stopped in a silver Honda Civic, and was waiting for her light to turn red.

The force of the crash and the speed of the offending vehicle carried both vehicles across Arlington Heights Road to the northeast corner of Arlington Heights Road and Euclid Avenue.

There were no transports to the hospital. No initial injuries were reported.
