Elderly Couple Die in House Fire on Kippling Ln Near Churchill Ln, Highland Park
Highland Park police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:16 AM Wednesday to a report of a house fire at 2088 Kippling Lane Highland Park, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a house fire that was initially reported on Ridge north of Park Ave.
The house fire, which was located on the northwest corner of Kippling Lane and Churchill was well-involved when firefighters arrived. Attempts of interior attack were stopped immediately and the fire went to defensive mode.
Battalion Chief 33 assigned Deerfield-Bannockburn Truck 20 to set up aerial operations from Half Day Road down Churchill by 1:30 a.m.
Battalion Chief 33 assigned Northfield Squad 29 as the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) company by 1:32 a.m.
A deck gun and at least four handlines were in operation.
Bodies of an elderly couple were found in a bedroom. A tarp covered and area inside the house where the second floor collapsed into the first floor after the roof collapsed onto the second floor.
An early address was also given as 2180 Church Hill Lane Highland Park before the fire, visible from a distance, was confirmed to be on Kippling Lane. The neighborhood, located just northeast of Deerfield High School, has fire hydrants, but much of the destruction of the two-story home had already occurred when firefighters arrived. A large second floor driveway overhang was completely destroyed, along with a car parked on the driveway. The car was still smoldering after sunrise on Wednesday morning.
