Apartment Fire on North Carter St Near Cornell Ave, Palatine
Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:56 AM Thursday to a report of an apartment fire at 322 North Carter Street Palatine, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of black smoke coming from an apartment unit in a 2-story brick apartment building.
Squad 85's crew on arrival reported nothing showing from the front; seconds later Deputy Chief 801 reported smoke showing from the rear of the building, second floor; and later an interior crew reported heavy smoke in a hallway.
Smoke was also reported coming from the patio doors. The first crew inside the apartment reported the fire might be capable of being extinguished with a pump can.
On arrival Battalion 8 reported possible increased smoke coming from the attic area, and relayed
The primary search was reported complete and water was on the fire by 12:07 p.m. Crews were also pulling the ceiling down to check for extension of the fire into the attic. Engine 84's crew reported the fire was in the kitchen.
The fire was declared knocked by 12:25 p.m. with firefighters working on overhaul.
A16 was the RIT ambulance crew.
