Crash Involving A Semi-Trailer Truck and Charter Bus NB I-294 Near St Charles Rd, Berkeley
Illinois State Police, Berkley police and Berkeley firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:05 PM Monday to a report of a crash with injuries involving a semi-trailer truck and a bus if fire 41.889908, -87.917730 (NB I-294 and St Charles Rd Berkeley, Il). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a semi-trailer truck crashed into a bus, causing a fire.
Firefighters on arrival reported both vehicles on fire. Three fire engines ran out of water about 7:22 p.m. and Berkeley's Battalion Chief called for Foam Task Force from Chicago Fire Department for assistance. The Battalion Chief also called for two more fire engines and a ladder truck to try to throw water over the wood sound barrier wall. Firefighters were considering cutting through the sound barrier wall, but it was initially unknown whether the did cut through the wall. The fire was close to a residential neighborhood in Berkeley near Superior Street west of Arthur Street, just north of St Charles Road.
Initially no information was available about victims. A large number of ambulances were not dispatched to the scene. The fire was declared under control by 8:10 p.m.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a Peoria Charter Bus was parked on the right shoulder when it was hit by a semi-trailer truck. Both vehicles were fully-involved with fire. After the crash the truck came to rest at least 250 feet in front of the bus.
