Man Dies After He Was Found Unresponsive Near a Snow Bank at Northpoint Shopping Center, Arlington Heights
Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:08 AM Saturday to a report of an unresponsive man down in the parking lot at Northpoint Shopping Center near Jewel-Osco, 440 East Rand Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a Jewel-Osco manager was administering CPR. The man was located in the southwest corner of the parking lot just east of the driveway with the stoplight just east of Arlington Heights Road.
Arlington Heights Fire Department firefighter/paramedics took over with Advanced Life Support treatment and CPR and transported the man with lights and sirens to Northwest Community Hospital.
Arlington Heights police reported that the man that was transported from the scene was 58 years-old and that he was unfortunately deceased. The office of the Cook County Medical Examiner is expected to make a ruling on the cause of death. Initially it was unknown whether the death was connected to cold exposure. The air temperature was 10-11°F about midnight Friday/Saturday and temperature readings climbed during the early morning hours. The air temperature at the time of the incident was climbing from about 26°F to 30°F.
The man was found at the foot of a snow bank near some plowing equipment -- closer to Marshalls than Jewel-Osco. Police did not believe he was connected with the plowing business, and police did not say that any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death were discovered.
Police cleared the scene soon after firefighter/paramedics left the scene.
